Hurray For The Riff Raff Unveil ‘HUNGRY GHOST’ Video

in Music by

Another Puerto Rican making headlines this week is Alynda Segarra and Hurray for the Riff Raff,  unveiling the first music video from ‘The Navigator’ (March 10/ATO Records).  The video for lead single “Hungry Ghost” was filmed in New Orleans and pays tribute to safe venues and parties offering sanctuary for the LGBTQ community. ‘The Navigator’ is Alynda Segarra’s interwoven, cinematic story about a street kid at a crossroads of identity and ancestral weight.  “Hungry Ghost” is a searing, introspective rock anthem about the story’s main character, Navita, trying to find her own voice and identity.

Says Alynda Segarra:

Hungry Ghost captures the beauty of safe and queer diy venues and parties. These sanctuaries will only become more important in these grave and uncertain times. Queerness is the future of our country and we, the future generation, are aiming for the freedom of gender fluidity and inter-sectional justice for all people. As artists and freethinkers we must care for each other and hold these safe spaces close to us.  With those we lost in Oakland and Orlando in our hearts, this video is a love letter to all the queer people who are putting on intentional events that promote nights of safety, unity and freedom. Keep up the good work.

The 12 original songs on ‘The Navigator’ were inspired by Alynda Segarra’s own journey growing up in New York, from the Bronx to finding the downtown punk scene and beyond.  She was inspired by poetry, Puerto Rican activist groups the Young Lords and the Ghetto Brothers, Fania Records and more.
