MANO’s Favorite Sounds of 2021 — Plus New Sounds for the New Year

in Music by

so this is the sound of you
here and now whether or not
anyone hears it this is
where we have come with our age
our knowledge such as it is
and our hopes such as they are
invisible before us
untouched and still possible”
— from “To the New Year” by W. S. Merwin

From J Balvin winning an award for “Afro-Latino Artist of the Year” to Snoop Dogg performing “Qué Maldición” with Banda MS, the year 2021, like everything else on earth, was delirious, an IRL version of Ren & Stimpy’s “Happy Happy Joy Joy” song.

Thankfully, in that delirium we found music and writing that kept us together, that gave us an opportunity to breathe, to be in the moment.

We also found the songs that allowed us to let loose, let go, and dance.

The MANO Pasado y Presente Playlist tiene un poquito de todo—some of our favorites that dropped throughout 2021, pero also music from artists who have announced releases for 2022.

In this playlist, you’ll be immersed by magical sounds, sounds from the sea, the heavens, and the tropics. You’ll be mesmerized. These are songs full of joy, passion, and hope—and we always need hope, most of all. May this playlist remind us of all the good things.

Enjoy this music with a classic cocktail—whisky anyone?!—and a cheer for better things always. With love and gratitude, wishing for you all that you desire in this nuevo capítulo.
