Friday Finds: New Latin Music (July 9, 2021)

in Music by

Since Bandcamp Fridays are no more, I’m simply here to share the good stuff, this time with videos…

DOS SANTOS

Fans of the band have been anxiously awaiting new music since the release of Logos in 2018. Well, now we’ve got a colorful preview in the new video for their song, “A Shot In The Dark.” They’ll be dropping a monthly single until their album premiere later this fall.

ANI CORDERO

Singer-songwriter Ani Cordero is sharing the special connection she had with her Abuelo Fernando in a new animated video for her song, “Mi Machete.” “The song tells the story of me and my Abuelo Fernando and how he instilled in me a deep love for Puerto Rico and nature,” she says. ”For the video, I imagined myself back in the mountains, as my little girl self, dancing with my wooden machete.”

LAS CAFETERAS

These chicanx spitfires never disappoint. Check out their new video and single, “La Sirena.” “With divas, dreamers & drag queens,” they write, ”we celebrate PRIDE and Immigrant Heritage Month [with a] special collabo between Poder Latinx and Human Rights Campaign to uplift the beautiful intersections of our communities.”

ELSA Y ELMAR

From her upcoming album, Ya No Somos Los Mismos, Colombian artist Elsa y Elmar says this new production “is an album about learning to lose in order to find. It will have a visual album where I explore this story.” Her second single is “Corazones negros.”

RAMONA

Tijuana rock band Ramona recently premiered their new album Redes Sociales (Social Media), which features collaborations with Goyo Degano from the Argentine group Bándalos Chinos; Santiago of Little Jesús; Daniela Spalla; and Gianna Sotera. There are eight new tracks on this album, and the new single with Gianna, “Regresaras,” includes a new video dropping today.

COMBO CHIMBITA

Another hot group who releases hit after hit. They just dropped a new video for their song “Mujer Jaguar,” which is the first release off their upcoming album via ANTI-Records.

LAS CRUXES

I want to know what Yayo of Las Cruxes is taking, because this man doesn’t stop when it comes to putting out rocanrol. This is the band’s newest single, “Llueve en mis sueños.”

YASSER TEJEDA

While we finish up our interview with this Dominican music ambassador, check out the acoustic single, “Nuestras Raíces,” from his new album, Interior.

LA DAME BLANCHE

Yaite Ramos Rodriguez, a.k.a. La Dame Blanche, is a singer, flautist and percussionist who knows how to deliver the most compelling sounds to summon the spirits. For the new single, “Veneno,” she used her performance for Colors Studios as the video. (Colors is a unique aesthetic music platform showcasing exceptional talent from around the globe.)

DANIEL, ME ESTAS MATANDO

Ah, you can’t help but feel the romance—and deep sadness—of boleros (and pop) from this Mexico City duo, Daniel, me estas matando. The single, “Lagrimas y Lluvia,” features Tijuanenses RAMONA.

LA TEXANA

I know nothing about this artist—and I dug as much as I like to dig to find more, y nada—but I like their style, and this is new.

PAPI TRUJILLO

Artist and producer Papi Trujillo is known as one of the pioneers of the Latin trap scene. This is his latest video, “Mi Cruz,” following the release of “5Saton.” If you enjoy autotune, you’ll love this.
