While we await the release of the new album Luz by Montevideo rock band No Te Va Gustar (NTVG), they just dropped the third single from the upcoming album, “Dejo Atrás” (“I Leave Behind”).
The song includes a lyric video that is one of the most beautiful works of art we’ve ever seen. It is a vibrant rendition created by the hand of artist Santiago Vecino, with animation by Pablo Marcovecchio. Check it out!
The song reflects a state of introspection and beginning again from a place of rebirth. This is a metamorphosis. In part, the lyrics say:
“como el cuerpo de una mariposa / traigo estos colores pero dejo atrás / un envase y un montón de cosas que se van…“
(“like the body of a butterfly / I bring these colors but leave behind / a container and many things that leave…”)
Luz is the band’s 11th studio album and was recorded over a period of 20 days in the Uruguayan countryside, far away from the city, where the musicians and collaborators were able to fully immerse themselves in the creative process. Produced by Héctor Castillo, the album is described in the band’s press material as a “rock album that’s direct, robust, on the band’s own label, and pursues something completely new.” It includes the participation of artists Ricardo Mollo, Nicki Nicole and Anita Álvarez de Toledo.
In 2019, No Te Va Gustar celebrated their 25th anniversary with an audiovisual piece titled Otras Canciones, in which they revisit some of the songs that didn’t get as much coverage as their more popular hits but that are an essential part of their history as a band.
They also included a biographical book, Memorias del Olvido.
It’s no wonder most of the band’s albums have been certified Gold or Platinum in Uruguay and Argentina.
