At some point, it’s not possible for an increasingly multicultural, progressive, and urban society to continue acquiescing to a dwindling population of old white conservatives living in rural states. Something has got to give.

We have come to both expect and accept the right of conservatives to shriek threats over tiny offenses. But this coddling comes at a high price.

As the war lumbers along and the atrocities become more atrocious, conservatives will insist that they knew all along that this Putin guy was bad news and will deny their groveling hero worship of a power-hungry mass murderer.
We have a situation where right-wing lunatics with an ironclad base just need to persuade a few suburban women that critical race theory is coming to eat their children. And that’s all it takes to defeat the scrambling, ineffectual Democrats.
